WELCOME

A little bit about us

We are a group of Yorkshire Lasses who love riding our bikes - and eating the odd slice of cake along the way too! The sportive came about because we have taken part in lots of other sportives and thought we can do that, and so the Yorkshire Lass Sportive was born.

The 2022 Yorkshire Lass Sportive will be our 6th one and we're aiming to make it our best yet!

The sportive is aimed at encouraging all ladies to get out on their bikes whilst raising money for some fantastic charities. So whether you are just starting out on your cycle journey or you're a more seasoned rider, everyone is welcome.

ROUTE INFORMATION

There are 3 brand new routes for 2021

  • Yer Brew's Mashin' (Short Route)

  • Stop Yer Faffing (Medium Route)

  • Nobbut a Chuffing Hill Lass (Long Route)

Once again, we will have our fabulous Ride Angels out on the route - a friendly face to offer support or just have a chat with as you cycle.

Our feed stations are one of the things that set us apart from all other sportives. Us lasses enjoy our cake and snacks almost as much as we love our cycling so we make sure our feed stations are well stocked with proper food.

We have mechanics out on the routes and at HQ offering support to all our riders.

All routes finish at Yorkshire Lass Sportive HQ where there's a well earned cuppa and a slice of cake waiting for you.

YER BREW'S MASHIN'
SHORT ROUTE 39 MILES

A scenic 39 mile circular route to the west side of Carlton Lodge, suitable of all abilities and those new to sportives. After a short stretch on the main road we head off onto quiet country lanes through several small pretty villages out towards Snape Castle, Thorpe Perrow & onto Bedale. A short climb into Thornton Watlass & your feed station which is approximately half way round. Once refreshed you will head back via Well and Wath & more beautiful little lanes. The route has roughly 1,000ft of climbing in total, and consists of small inclines, nothing to worry about but lots to enjoy! You will be assured of a big cheer as you head up the finish line to collect your medal & goody bag, before grabbing a piece of well earned cake….and don’t forget Yer Brew’s Mashin’

STOP YER FAFFING
MEDIUM ROUTE  60 MILES

Our medium route of 60 miles & 2,700ft of climbing is doable for most regular riders! Heading out on the same roads as the long - the route takes you onto quiet country lanes and through the scenic villages towards Kirklington, Snape & Bedale before arriving at Thornton Watlass for your first feed station. On leaving the Thornton Watlass  the road is undulating out towards Leyburn, a lovely market town that will host the finish of this year’s Stage 1 of the Women’s Tour de Yorkshire. From here the climbing begins to be more challenging as you head towards East Witton & back to the feed station at Thornton Watlass for the second time. Best ‘Stop yer faffin’ here as there’s still 18 miles to the finish! We will be waiting there to cheer you in, present you with your finishers medal & goody bag and of course are legendary cakes & brew.

NOBBUT A CHUFFING HILL LASS
LONG ROUTE 100 MILES

A challenging 100-mile ride with over 6,000ft of climbing this route is aimed at the more experienced keen cyclist & is not for the faint hearted! Our routes take you through some of Yorkshire’s most beautiful country side, stunning scenery, iconic landmarks and charming market towns. Leaving Carlton Lodge our riders head off west along the same lovely quite lanes as the medium route, the terrain is fast & flat through Snape to the feed station at Thornton Watlass. From here the route gets a little more undulating as you head towards the pretty market town of Leyburn & passing through Castle Bolton where you might see race horses heading off to the gallops. More undulations follow as you loop back towards Thornton Watlass –you know all roads lead to Thornton Watlass, right?

Our new route for 2022 takes us to the lovely market town of Masham, famous for the Black Sheep Brewery but sorry you won’t have time for a pint – maybe on the return though! It gets a bit lumpy if not gruelling on the road to Grewelthorp, Kirby Malzard and Ripslith…phew! Where you might pop into G&Ts, but only for an ice cream. We turn right here, up a nice little incline and left past the amazing Brimham Rocks formations; enjoy the down as the road will soon kick up again! Next stop Pateley Bridge where you will need take on some fuel. The road along the reservoir to Lofthouse provides a welcome rest bite and lovely scenery.  Heading out of Lofthouse you know you’re in Nidderdale as you take on the iconic Trapping Hill climb – it’s a toughy, rated 7/10 in the Cycling Climbs of Yorkshire so get in the granny gear and remember – its Nobbut a chuffing hill, get thi’sen up it Lass! The views are wonderful, and the descent even more so. Trapping hill dispensed with & the climbing done, well most of it, you head back to Masham & return to Thorton Watlass for a final feed stop before rejoining the short & medium routes. The usual warm welcome awaits you at the finish where you’ll be presented with your finishers medal, cup of Yorkshire tea and a piece of cake and a massive cheer!

FINISH LINE

Every rider will receive a Yorkshire Lass Sportive medal at the finish line. This year our medals will be presented to honour the memory of the wonderful Mary Billington. We are extremely grateful to Jackie Bratley for this generous tribute to her Mum.

All our riders will receive a proper Yorkshire Lass welcome back to HQ - we celebrate every cyclists achievement no matter how far or fast you go. There will be cheering and whooping and cowbells ringing as you cross the finish line.

And of course there is a well earned cuppa and slice of cake once you've crossed the finish line back at Yorkshire Lass HQ.
